The new version 2.0.2-2 for android now supports changing the screen orientation. It also supports split-screen for multitasking.

Because of how OpenGL works on android, this is accomplished by re-loading textures on the background every time the screen orientation changes. Something similar also happens to the shaders.

For the most part, the average user will have a smooth experience and not notice any distractions.
